How to Find Correct Brake Wire for a Brake Controller on a 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
I bought a 7 pin tow kit along with a red arc tow controller. I have watched your videos on the install on a car that is close to my year. I didnt want to ask the question on that video on you tube and figured Id reach out this way. I own the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness. I have everything installed except for the red wire coming out of the brake controller. I was wondering which wire Id need to tap into. The 2020 subaru outback has a brown one that it says in the video, but the wires are different in the 2022 outback wilderness. Thanks and looking forward to your reply to get this up and running.

Thanks for reaching out, Michael!
It looks like historically Subaru uses a brown wire (sometimes with another color stripe) for the cold side of the brake light switch, so it sounds like you've got a good start for your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon.
With that being said, I'm not seeing anywhere where this has been confirmed for your 2022 model year so I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 so you can make sure that wire only gets hot when the brake pedal is pressed. If this is the case then that's where you'll want to connect the red wire from your Redarc controller, like the Liberty # RED24FR. Otherwise you'll need to use the probe on the tester to figure out which wire is the one you need to connect to.
