Can Curt TruTrack C17501 Work on Trailer with 640 lb Tongue Weight Unloaded

Question:

I have a camper that is about 7000 lbs dry and 8700 gross weight that we pull with a Silverado 2500HD truck. The camper has a 640 lb tongue weight I assume that is empty because all of the tanks, 30 gals black, 60 gray, and 43 fresh are in front of the axles and it seems that would impact the tongue weight. I currently have an old Reese round bar WD hitch but want to change to a trunnion bar with sway control. I was looking at the Curt C17501 because we will most likely upgrade this camper one day. However, the C17501 says the tongue weight should be 1000-1500 lbs and our current camper is only at 640 lbs tongue weight. Will this be a problem with our current camper? I really dont want to replace our current hitch and then have to upgrade again in the event we get a heavier camper later.

In order for a weight distribution system to be effective the tongue weight of the trailer needs to fall within the range of the system. So if the trailers you plan to tow are going to have a wide range of tongue weights it's not likely you'll find a system that can work on both.

Most likely when your trailer is loaded though it's going to have a high enough tongue weight to work with the Curt TruTrack part # C17501 which has a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,500 lbs.
