Will Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution C17501 Work on a Trailer with 7,294 Pound Dry Weight

Question:

Trailer is 7294 uvw 2351 ccc tongue weight 845. Do I need to add the weight of the hitch itself, plus propane 2x30, plus 2 batteries and supplies 1500 to 2000 max lbs to determine hitch weight? Have a chance to buy the c17501 and am wondering if it might be too much hitch for my application.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. But it does not include the weight of the weight distribution system because it is essentially supporting itself.

Curt TruTrack weight distribution system # C17501 is rated for 1,000 to 1,500 pounds tongue weight. If 845 pounds is the dry tongue weight then it is entirely possible that once loaded the total tongue weight will exceed 1,000 pounds. As long as the total tongue weight is within 1,000 to 1,500 pounds you will be good to go.

If 845 pounds is the dry tongue weight and the dry trailer weight is 7,294 pounds then that means the tongue weight of the trailer is 11.5 percent of the gross weight. If we apply 11.5 percent to the dry weight of 7,294 pounds plus carrying capacity of 2,351 pounds the tongue weight of just the trailer would be around 1,109 pounds.
