Is a Bypass Required for the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit

Question:

I would like to add one of the Derale external transmission coolers to my 2006 Dodge Dakota. My question is do I need to add a thermostat bypass valve so the transmission fluid is not too cool in winter months or is there already something like that built into the in radiator cooler? Like I stated, I am adding on and not bypassing existing factory in radiator cooler. Thanks in advance for your help.

In most cases, it's not required to add a bypass to a transmission cooler like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13503. The transmission cannot be overcooled but it will simply take longer for the fluid to get up to operating temperature is all. If you live in climates with extreme winters up north like Canada and Alaska then you will want to consider the Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit w/ 3/8" NPT Ports part # D13011 but for all other instances one will not be needed.
