Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Ford F-250 and f-350 and Rail Mounted Toolbox
Question:
I have a F-250 super duty Ford with a 6-1/2 ft. bed. I am considering purchasing a fifth wheel travel trailer. I also have an over rail tool box that is 5 inches above the rail. It is approximately 14-1/2 inches from the tool box to the center of the rear axle. Will I need to get rid of the tool box or possibly get a floor mount tool box? What style of hitch will I need?

With the 6-1/2 foot bed on your 2004 Ford Super Duty you can use a slider hitch for your fifth-wheel installation. The hitch you need, see link, will depend on the gross weight of the trailer you will be pulling. You will also need to allow for gear, water and accessories that will be stored in the trailer.
The install kit will be the same for any of the hitches you choose and that part number is # RP50082-58.
I have not seen a fifth-wheel application that will allow for maneuvering with an over the rail mounted toolbox, so I believe you will have to remove it and if you need a box get a floor mounted box. You will need to measure to be sure the box will fit with the fifth wheel installed and provide clearance for maneuvering.
