If you're planning on purchasing a used hitch, be sure to examine it carefully. If the paint is cracked anyhere on the hitch, it could be an indication that the hitch has been damaged or bent. Make sure there isn't excessive corrosion. Surface rust is okay, but if it's eating through the hitch I'd recommend passing on it. The hardware used to attach the hitch to the vehicle is considered a one-time use item only. If the bolts are torqued more than once, they can stretch which weakens them.

We have several trailer hitches that will fit your 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, see link below. I cannot give a recommendation for other manufacturers hitch applications. I believe that your concern is with either the spare tire well or the rear fascia on the Grand Cherokee. All of the hitches we carry will mount without any modifications to these areas of the vehicle. I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, item # 75139 for your vehicle (see instructions).

If you have a rear mounted spare tire you may need a hitch extender to be able to tow a trailer and we have several of those to choose from, see link below. Remember the use of any type of adapter will reduce you tongue capacity by 50 percent.

Some items you may need with your hitch purchase are listed below.

Wiring # C55369 or # 42535
Drawbar # C45010
Pin and Clip # C21500
Hitch Ball # 19260 or # 19247
Hitch Lock Kit # e98880
