Solution for Gaining Clearance Between Bumper and Ball Mount on 2022 Ram 2500
Question:
I had a AME vendor up fit 8 22 Ram 2500s with service bodies. The trailer receiver is connected to the original frame causing a small space between the bumper and the ball. We are looking to tow about 12,000 pounds and need more space between the hitch and the bumper. Please see attached photos. What would you recommend? Thank you

Expert Reply:
In order to gain additional space between the bumper and the ball I recommend using a ball mount with a long shank. You would not be able to use an extender since the extender will reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50%. We do have one ball mount that may work, which is the Gen-Y 3-Ball Mount for 2" Hitch Receivers - 2-5/16", 2", 1-7/8" Balls # 325-GH-054.
This ball mount fits a 2" receiver and has a gross towing weight of 12,000 lbs for the 2" ball and 16,000 lbs for the 2-5/16" ball. It has an overall length of 12" and measures 9-1/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the 2" and 2-5/16" balls. Since I do not know where your trailer hitch sits or the length of your current ball mount I recommend measuring to see if this will provide you with the space you are looking for.
