Parts Needed To Flat Tow a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer Behind a 2018 Newmar Baystar Motorhome

Question:

I looking at replacing my current flat tow vehicle behind by 2018 Newmar Baystar have already bought several upgrade components from you for this RV. I am looking at the 2022 Chevy Blazer not the Trailblazer. I checked the owners manual on-line and it says it is flat towable. However, it says to remove the battery cable while towing. 2 questions, 1 do you have all components to flat tow this vehicle and 2 what do you recommend for braking with the battery disconnected? My current tow uses invisbrake with a charge cable from the RV.

Yes, we will have all the components you will need to be able to flat tow your 2022 Chevrolet Blazer. First you will need to select the correct baseplate. The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM28VR will only fit the 2.0L turbo engine models. While the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-523204-5 will work with the 2.5L and 3.6L engines available on the Blazer. Both these baseplates are designed to connect to Roadmaster Direct connect tow bars like the Nighthawk # RM-676.

For the wiring you can either use a Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 that will contain new diodes, wiring, 6-way connector and flex coiled harness. Or you can use the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152 that contains just the wiring and diodes if you have no need for a new coiled harness. You will be able to run that wiring to a RoadMaster 6-Wire Trailer Connector # RM-910030-7 that will attach to the front of your Blazer. If you are replacing your tow bars with the Nighthawk bars the RoadMaster Nighthawk All Terrain Towing Combo Kit # RM-9284-2 will contain the wiring and storage bags needed for the new bars.

If you wish to reuse your Roadmaster InvisiBrake # RM-8700 from your other vehicle the Second Vehicle Kit # RM-98700 will provide you with new mounting hardware so all you need is the main unit and brake actuator. Personally I prefer the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 as this allows you to mount the main unit under the hood rather than taking up the limited space inside your cab. The system is activated with the flip of a switch when you are ready to tow.

Rather than having to disconnect the battery I recommend the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 for your Blazer. With this you will simply push a button on your dash when you are ready to tow. There is no need to open the hood. This will also allow for a Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to always be connected on the power side of the disconnect that will maintain the battery and prevent your braking system from discharging your battery while being flat towed.
