Disconnecting Battery in 2015 Chevy Colorado When Flat Towing

Question:

Towing 2015 Chevy Colorado Is the only reason they recommend disconnecting the battery is that it will discharge during towing? And if so can I put a charge wire from my motorhome to the towed vehicles battery to keep it charged ? Ive heard that the steering is some how effected when towing with the battery connected, is this correct? It would be greatly appreciated that someone who really knows clears up these towing questions, every thing Ive been reading sounds like there guessing

The main reason that the battery must be disconnected when flat towing is to prevent the battery from draining. When flat towing your 2015 Chevy Colorado, the key must be left in the (II) position. This would leave some of the electrical components on and drain the battery.

To eliminate the hassle of having to disconnect your battery each time you want to flat tow, I recommend installing the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect, part # RM-766. The automatic battery disconnect is activated by the tail light circuit from the motorhome. When the motorhome tail lights are on, the solenoid is activated and the Colorado battery is automatically disconnected. The power from the tail light circuit that is not needed to keep the solenoid open is then routed to the Colorado battery helping to maintain the charge while you are towing.
