Will the Brake Buddy Battery Maintainer work with Battery Disconnect RM-766

Question:

Hello, I just finished getting me 2009 Jeep Wrangler ready for flat towing. I am using the following: Brake Buddy Classic Blue Ox Wiring Kit 8869 with additional light sockets Brake Buddy Battery Maintainerpowered by the aux pin from RV with 13.7 volts Knife Disconnect on the Neg Terminal Ran a separate 12 volt socket from the jeep directly to the battery to power the brake buddy independent of the vehicles circuits The only thing drawing power while towing will be the brake buddy Here is my question: Will the brake buddy battery maintainer still work if my vehicles negative terminal is disconnected like this? The brake buddy maintainer only has one wire that goes to the positive side of my battery. Thanks,

Expert Reply:

The Battery Disconnect part # RM-766 installs on the positive battery wire so that when activated all power is cut for the vehicle. See attached chart.

What you would need to do is install the # RM-766 after the connection you have for your Brake Buddy so that it can still draw voltage when needed even if the # RM-766 is activated.

Do you mean wire the Brake Buddy to the RV's battery? This likely wouldn't provide the most reliable power source because of the length of wiring that would need to be used.
