Built-in LED Light Strips

Roadmaster Nighthawk Integrated LEDs

This is the coolest feature you didn't know you needed. These built-in LEDs don't just look dope - they're great for safety too, especially when you're driving at night. They light up the space between your RV and your toad (towed vehicle) and alert other drivers to the fact that you're towing a vehicle behind your RV. You definitely want to avoid an inattentive driver trying to merge right into the middle of your setup.

They also come in handy when you get to your campsite after dark and you want to unhook. These LEDs are more than bright enough for you to see what you're doing.

It's all extra snazz with no extra work. When you plug the power cord into your RV's 7-way to flat tow, the LEDs will have power. Turn on your RV's taillights and the LEDs come on too. Simple as that.

Smooth Hookup with Stainless Steel Arms

Roadmaster Nighthawk Stainless Steel Arms for Easy Hookup

The Nighthawk is designed to make hooking up your toad a smooth and easy process. The telescoping arms are able to extend to the needed length and angle to reach the base plate without the need for your vehicle to be perfectly level or in the exact right spot behind your RV. The inner arms are stainless steel and will slide in and out smoothly. Supremely corrosion resistant, they'll stay rust-free and functional for the life of the tow bar.

Slide the tow bar into your hitch and pin it in place. Get the arms connected to the base plate one at a time. Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you're ready to hit the road!

Extra-Long Arms Get You Around Tight Turns

The Nighthawk's arms are longer than average, giving you an above-average turning radius. You're going to be able to get around obstacles and make sharp turns with no worry of clipping the corner of your RV. Maneuver through gas stations and the campsite no problem.

Non-Binding for Easy Disconnect

Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.

non binding towbar

Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply pull up the lever on the arm of the Nighthawk to disengage the internal latch. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.

Built-In Cable Guides

Tow Bar Cord Channels

The Nighthawk comes with cable guides built into the arms, keeping your setup streamlined and organized. The power cord will come pre-installed in the cable guide, protecting it from getting damaged or tangled. It's also a great way to keep all your gear together. You won't need to find a separate place to store your power cord; you can keep it right there where you need it, ready for the next time you flat tow.

Power Cord and Safety Cables

You can thread the safety cables through the guides as well, which will likewise protect them from damage and make them easy to store.

Engineered for Excellence

FEA test

The Nighthawk is engineered to be as tough and durable as possible. Throughout the design process, rigorous physical and computerized testing is done, including Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA). Each of these tests displays a 3-dimensional image of the tow bar while it is put under thousands of pounds of pressure. Areas of stress in the tow bar can then be located and studied so that those areas can be strengthened. This process is repeated until any weak spots, particularly those found in load-bearing components, are completely removed. The result is a product that is durable, strong, and safe.

Simple Storage: RV-Mounted Tow Bar

Road Master Night Hawk Storage

The Nighthawk folds up to conveniently store on the back of your RV when you're not using it. After disconnecting the tow bar from your toad, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. Push the tow bar up until the holding latch clicks into place. The arms can then swing to the right or to the left, whichever side you want to store it on.

For added protection from the elements, slip the Roadmaster tow bar cover (RM-055-3 - sold separately) over the tow bar when you're not using it.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Hitch Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

When I called etrailer with my concerns about purchasing a tow bar to flat tow my Grand Cherokee. I did not have a brand in mind other that what I read about in magazines. I was helped in making a decision on purchasing a RoadMaster tow bar along with all the electrical wiring needed to do the job. Everything came as described and was told if I had any problems what so ever to call for help. None needed but was good to hear knowing i had back up. I have used this tow bar and hook ups for around 10 or so camping trips. Mostly from Maryland to Myrtle Beach SC. No problems what so ever. I highly recommend etrailer and the RoadMaster lighted tow bar, wiring and bracket for my Car.

Still working great, I stand by my original statement and recommend to anyone looking to flat tow

by:

The tow bar works great, But the breakaway cables didn't hold when my drop hitch broke, both cables sheared leaving my Jeep on the side of the road, luckily the emergency breakaway switch activated and it came to a stop. I think the cable needs to be stronger to hold a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4XE.

by:

The Nighthawk tow bar has been great. Easy installation of baseplate on grand Cherokee. Cool LED lights on tow bar arms. Release lever on arms for easy on and off hookup, no binding. Bars fold up and stow out of the way on the RV when not in use. Defender Rock Guard to keep anything from being thrown up on the jeep. Just got back from Canada last week and no tow dolly to deal with at the RV parks. Another great trip made even better with Nighthawk.

Missing hook for one of the safety cables. Neither etrailer or Roadmaster would get me a replacement

Product works great. Still never received a replacement. And customer service never reached out like you said they would above. So I would never use etrailer again.

by:

This works great. I really appreciate the lights on the side when connecting the electrical plugs from the tow vehicle to the vehicle being towed. Saves some time verifying that there is a good connection between the 2 vehicles. Simply turn on the lights in the tow vehicle and check that the tow bar lights are lit. If not then you can see immediately if the 2 plugs are properly seated.

by:

Love the Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar especially at night when it lights up. Easy set up to our toad (Jeep). Etrailer delivered it on time as promised.

by:

I used the Mopar Tow Harness and it works really well with the electronics of the Roadmaster and the Mercedes Sprinter base of my Renegade 25FWS. I love the led center-marker strips. And the ease of the connection to the Jeep is flawlessly easy. I could not have made a better choice. Thank you etrailer.

by:

Towed a 2004 Honda CRV with this tow bar for about 8,500 miles behind a Renegade 40 ft Super C motorhome. Toad tracks perfectly. Be careful, though, to regularly clean the road grime from the tow bar inner arms on a regular basis and lube with a silicone based lubricant after cleaning. In my view, this tow bar is top of the line and very easy to hook-up and detach

by:

Box was damaged upon arrival. One of the safety cables had a cut in the plastic around the steel cable.
Product is beautiful and easy to install. If necessary, a manual comes with the towbar and if you have trouble figuring it out, etrailer has various installation videos available on their website.

by:

I am very pleased with the operation and performance of this tow bar. It is easy enough to handle, the tension release levels work great, and the built in cable holders really make for a clean operating set up.

For our set up (2018 F-53 chassis pulling a 2022 Jeep Gladiator Sport), we needed a 2" drop hitch receiver.

For our configuration, the Nighthawk needed to be modified because it was pulling a vehicle with the Stealth Brakebuddy: The standard 6 pin connector does not work with Brakebuddy's proprietary connector - it must use the 7-pin to custom plug cable included with the Brake buddy. To provide power to the LED array on the tow bar, I replaced the coiled cable with a simple heavy duty 4-pin trailer wire plug and cable, and connected that to the 4/5-pin connector on the RV, and plugged the Brakebuddy cable into the RV's 7-pin connection.

by:

Great product. Highly recommended. We are using this tow bar on a 2008 Chevy Tahoe. We love the side LED lights as well. All the cables are heavy duty and have not shown any signs of wear or tear after 1 year of use. Caution: make sure you check your package contents when you receive the tow bar. It was not packaged too well; there was no padding in the box, so the plastic wiring harness 7 pin socket got crushed during shipping.

by:

Been problem free
Robust construction
Really
like the lightness. I can pick it up easily
LED safety lights are cool too

by:

Great towbar. This is my third Roadmaster towbar over the past 25+ years of RV'ing and towing Jeeps, all have been nice products. I have used this Roadmaster Nighthawk for the past year with approx. 6k miles towing our 2011 JKUR behind our 2003 Monaco Dynasty and so far I am very pleased with the purchase and product.

by:

Great Product, 1 year in service, 20,000+ miles. Simple hookup and disconnect. Lighter weight makes handling it much easier. LED lights are a nice safety feature. Very happy with the tow bar and E Trailer.

by: 02/24/2022

The Roadmaster Base Plate and All Terrain Direct Connect Tow Bar worked perfect for my 6-Speed Subaru CrossTrek. Looking forward to exploring and traveling later this spring.

by:

RMR-676 was received quicker than expected, living in Alaska this was a great plus. Our product arrived missing some hardware. I contacted etrailer and the missing pieces were right away. Great service from etrailer and Roadmaster !!! Looking forward to snow melting and getting the motor home out for an actual road test!!!

by:

This system worked perfectly from experience. They help from trailers e trailer agents was crucial for guiding me through the process.

by:

The Roadmaster tow bar is fantastic. Super easy to connect, strong and durable. I love the LED lights on the tow bar. I would buy it again in a heartbeat and recommend it without hesitation.

by:

I bought this tow bar to tow my 2018 Jeep GC behind my DP. It works as advertised. I is easy to hook and unhook event when not on level ground. Have had no issues with this choice for the first full year of use. Its a good solid performer.

Still happy with my Roadmaster tow bar and the company. I took a camping trip driving my DP with the Jeep in tow on some really tight narrow mountain switch backs and one of the ears on the jeep side of the tow bar. Roadmaster replaced it for free. No issues or problems. we towed about 5 to 6k miles last year.

by:

We love this towbar! Combined with the Roadmaster Direct-connect Baseplate, charge line kit, smart diodes lighting kit, and Demco Stay-in-Play supplimental braking system, we have a rock-solid setup for our 2023 Equinox LT (AWD). One person can connect or disconnect. Setup is easy and it stows-away nicely on the back of the RV when we're not connected. Make sure to get yourself a locking hitch pin for added security.

by:

Very nice improvement from my old Roadmaster tow bar. Everything is so much smoother and easier to operate. Haven’t tried the lights yet but they will be handy to check towbar and unhook at night. It was missing one hook in the box. I got 3 quick connects and 1hook instead of 2 of each. I’m sure it will be as good if not better than my old Roadmaster which has served me well for over 10 years

by:

We have experienced wire failures in the harness and in connections. In fact we had to replace the connectors within 6 months. And have a inline splice installed in main wires

by:

Haven't used it yet, just installed. Very impressed so far. Easy to hook and unhook from TOAD. I really like how the light harness and safety cables route through the tow bar so I don't have to tie them up.

by:

Great tow bar very easy to connect to c ar.

by:

2nd unit I purchased due a Walmart drive backing into me and destroying it the first one :( Works great, easy to hookup and love the LED lights that tell others that a car is in tow at night. Higher priced than other lesser tow bars, but well worth the $$

You can flat tow vehicles with automatic transmissions with tow bars like the Roadmaster Nighthawk part # RM-676 that you referenced but not every vehicle has the same procedures and restrictions. • How Do Vehicles Track When Being Flat Towed Behind RV
The Roadmaster Nighthawk, part # RM-676, is one of the nicest tow bars on the market. The tow vehicle will track right behind the vehicle as you are traveling. Since the front wheels of the vehicle will be unlocked the vehicle will steer itself in the same direction as the tow vehicle. When you are flat towing a vehicle you will not be able to reverse with the toad connected. It would have to be disconnected if you have to reverse. That is true for any tow bar/base plate combination.

It really depends on the vehicle you are flat towing using a tow bar like the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 that you referenced as to whether or not the odometer will track the mileage. With the caveat that we don't carry Mopar wiring and as such aren't familiar with it, there should be a way for you to do this. There isn't an adapter to connect the female 7-way on your Jeep to the female 6-round on the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-676. So what you'll need to do is cut off the 7-way on the Jeep harness and wire in the 6-way male plug that came with the Nighthawk. It is completely normal for one of the pins on the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar w/ LED Lights # RM-676 - or any tow bar, really - to be more difficult to remove. The reason is the amount of force on a tow bar, both when pulling your tow vehicle and when braking, is exceptional and is going to cause tension in the components.
