Recommended Mounting Hardware and Quantity For the Dutton-Lainson Deluxe Roller Bunks

Question:

I have a 198inch Carolina Skiff on a Wesco Trailer with 12 Foot Wooden Bunks and they are 2x6 in measurement. The boat weights around 1700lbs. First do you recommend drilling thru holes when installing these on the wooden bunks? If so Stainless Steel bolts and how many? Also could i get away with one set of rollers or should i get 2 sets? Thanks

I do recommend drilling through holes in your bunk board to mount the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk # DL21741.

Stainless steel mounting hardware would provide the best corrosion resistance but remember the rails are galvanized and zinc bolts are used on the rollers. Really I say it would be a what would you prefer scenario, but stainless steel is the best option. The bolts should be 3/8" in diameter and 2-1/2" to 3" in length depending if your 2x6 is a true 2" thick or only 1-1/2" thick. And also you will want to use large washers (1" in diameter) both inside the track of the rollers and on the bottom of your bunk boars this will help if your bunk boards start to rot away. A nylock nut is preferred on the bottom to ensure the nut does not back out. I would personally use 4 bolts per roller bunk, 2 on the hole closest to the ends and 2 on the holes closest to the center.

I would go with 2 sets of rollers since you do have the 12 foot bunk boards. This will keep your boat on the rollers and not let the front or back of the boat teeter between the rollers and bunk boards.
