Parts Needed to Install 6-Way on 1996 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
Good morning, Im aware that theres plug-and-play kits for four-pin trail connectors for my vehicle a 1996 Jeep Cherokee XJ. However, Im trying to hook up to a trailer with electric brakes and a six-pin round connector. I read on your web site that four-pin connectors dont have enough circuits to control electric brakes, so Im thinking that installing a plug-and-play four-pin connector and then simply using a four to six-pin adapter for this particular trailer still wont be enough to use its brakes. I know how to solder, but itd be awesome if I didnt have to. Do you have a kit with fitting connectors for my Jeep that simply plugs in a six-pin connector? Thanks for your help!

You can add a 6-way to your 1996 Jeep Cherokee, though there isn't a plug-in 6-way, you would need to wire it in. First you would need to add a 4-way (which also has to be hardwired in as there isn't a plug-in option for a 4-way on a '96 Cherokee), and then a 6-way adapter. The 4-way will plug into the adapter and the 6-way will be wired to your battery and the brake controller wire.
So, exactly what you need will be the following:
- Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit w/ 4-Pole Connector # 119178KIT
- Mighty Cord Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way Flat to 6-Way Round # A10-6034VP
I have added a link below to a help article on wiring as well which I recommend taking a look at.
