If you are looking for a replacement 7-way trailer connector for your 2009 Ford F-250, you can use either the Tow Ready Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Connector, # 74682, or the Pollack Replacement 7-way Socket, # PK11893. Keep in mind, these will only work if your truck came with a factory 7-way connector and you are simply looking for a replacement connector.
If your truck only has a 4-way flat connector and you are looking to upgrade to a 7-way way connector, then I recommend using the Hopkins 7 and 4-Way Adapter, # 37185. In addition to the adapter, you will need an appropriate length of 10 gauge duplex wire, # 10-2-1 and a 40-amp circuit breaker # PK54540. The adapter has a 4-way flat connector that will connect to your existing 4-way flat trailer connector and you will have 4 wires left to hardwire.
The white wire is for ground and should be attached either to an existing ground stud or a clean, bare metal surface on the vehicle frame. The purple wire is used for reverse lights. This can be spliced into your vehicles reverse light circuit using a quick splice, # SWC502905-1, or it can be tied off if you do not need the reverse light function on the trailer. The final two wires are the black and blue wires. These will be attached to the duplex wire and ran to the front of the vehicle.
The black wire from the adapter will attach to the black wire from the duplex wire and the blue wire to the white wire. The black wire will then be round to the positive post on your truck battery via the 40-amp circuit breaker and the blue wire will be ran into the cab of the truck through the firewall for a brake controller. If you do not intend to install a brake controller, you can route the wire and simply tie it off.
If your truck does not have a trailer connector at all, then you can install a 7-way trailer connector by using the Pollack 7-way Socket, # PK11893, that I mentioned above and the Pollack 4 ft Pigtail Wiring harness, # PK11998. This will be a hardwire situation since the truck does not have any trailer wiring already installed. Pollack does not follow the conventional color codes for trailer wiring so I have listed the wire colors and functions of this pigtail harness for you below.
Red - Left Turn and Stop - 14 gauge
White - Ground - 10 gauge
Blue - Electric Brakes - 12 gauge
Green - Right Turn and Stop - 14 gauge
Black - Battery - 12 gauge
Brown - Running Lamps - 14 gauge
Yellow - Backup Lamps - 14 gauge
You can simply splice into the tail light wiring at the tail lights and connect the remaining ground, reverse light wire, 12 volt power wire and electric brake wire using the duplex cable # 10-2-1 and 40-amp circuit breaker # 564 as I described previously with adapter # 37185.
