2" Bike Rack Hitch Extender With Anti-Rattle Lock For A Thule Apex 4 Bike Rack

Question:

I have a 2” hitch and would like to add a 7-8” extender so that I can open the vehicle hatch while bikes are loaded on my Thuke Apex 4 rack. I’m considering the Yakima Straight Shot and the Curt 8” extenders. The rack itself has an integrated lock to lock the rack to the hitch receiver. I’ll use that to lock the rack to extender. But I would also like to lock the extender to the hitch receiver. Do you sell a lock that can be used to lock the Yakima extender or the Curt extender to the receiving hitch?

Expert Reply:

I recommend the Brophy Hitch Extender # HE06 with a Stainless Steel Locking, Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin # SR25219 for your 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe. The Yakima StraightShot # Y69VR does not offer a locking pin that is threaded to match, and the Curt Extender # C45791 uses a solid shank meaning you would have to use a separate lock and anti-rattle mechanism.

These will allow you to secure the hitch into the receiver on your Hyundai, so that your Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack # TH9025XT will sit back 7-3/8" further from your rear cargo area.
