Size Difference Between ST205/75R15 and ST225/75R15 Trailer Tires

Question:

ST205/75R15 and ST225/75R15 . What is the difference between 225 and 205? Is that the width or profile? I would like to go to the 225 for greater load capacity.

A 225/75-15 tire would be about 3/4 of an inch taller and 3/4 of an inch wider. This will move the top of the tire about 3/8 of an inch closer to the underside of the fender or wheel well and the same distance closer to the trailer frame on the inside of the tire. As long as you end up with 3-4 inches of fender clearance and 2 inches of frame clearance to the inside, moving to the 225/75-15 tire size won't be a problem.

The Kenda Karrier # AM10256 225/75-15 Load Range D tire you'd looked at has a 2540 lb per tire capacity. The tire would fit comfortably on a 15 inch rim that's 5, 6, 6-1/2 or 7 inches wide.
