Parts Needed To Add Electric Trailer Brakes On 1996 Coleman Popup W/ Spindle Measuring 1.05
Question:
I want to install brakes on my 1996 Coleman popup. I removed a bearing but there is no number on it. The inside diameter of the bearings is 1.05" and the outside diameter is 1.79". What parts do I need to add electric brakes to my trailer?

Since the I.D. of the bearings on your 1996 Coleman Popup Camper are measuring 1.05" you more than likely have spindles that use # L44649 which measure 1.063" as this is the only bearing close to this measurement.
I would first double check the I.D. of the bearing or the O.D. of the spindle to make sure the measurement is closer to 1.063".
If that is the case you will need hub and drum assembly # 8-257-5UC3 and electric trailer brake assemblies # AKEBRK-2 with mounting hardware # BRKH7.
Now your axle will need to have a brake mounting flange installed. You can see if one is already installed by checking right behind the idler hub as shown in the included picture.
If you do not have a brake mounting flange installed you will need to have an axle shop weld the # 4-34 on to the axle. The reason an axle shop needs to do the install is it needs to be perfectly square to the axle to keep the brakes from wearing unevenly.
Next you will need to change the 4-way connector on the trailer to a 7-way connector using # H20044 and junction box # 38656 to make all the connections. You will need to run # 10-1-1 from the junction box to each electric brake assembly using heat shrink butt connectors # DW05745-5 for a weather tight connection.
To finish of the trailer side of things you will also need a break away kit # 20400 which will engage the electric brakes should your trailer ever become disconnected from your tow vehicle.
Now that your trailer has electric trailer brakes, your tow vehicle will need to have a functioning 7-way connector and a trailer brake controller. If it does not just let me know the Year/Make/Model of your tow vehicle and I would be happy to go over everything you need to get these installed.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
