2021 Kia Seltos Trailer Hitch Options
Question:
Hope to get a hitch put on my 2021 Kia Seltos do I can haul my sister’s electric wheelchair. I had no idea this would be needed when I got the car. All the carriers I see require Class III 2” hitches. Any suggestions? I do not know the chair weight right now but am trying to find out.

Many carriers for mobility scooters/wheelchairs will be rated up to at least 400 if not 500 lbs. in order to meet their intended purpose. Because this carrier and its load are directly on the hitch itself, manufacturers will state the need for a 2" receiver and class III hitch. Some Class II hitches will have the 2" receiver and there are adaptors to change from the 1-1/4" to 2", such as the # HTAD but in doing so this cuts down the tongue weight capacity. The weight load is what is important when choosing a hitch for this type application.
For your 2021 Kia Seltos there are two hitches available that are confirmed fits, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C65FR and the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT39MR. Both are Class I hitches with a 1-1/4" receiver and maximum tongue weight of 200 lbs. Both are highly rated and come from two of the top manufacturers. Between these two, I recommend selecting the lower cost item as each are high quality.
While we do not yet know the weight of the wheelchair I have doubts in having enough weight capacity on your 2021 Kia. I think you may want to consider a trailer rather than a hitch mounted carrier. If so, you will need trailer light wiring as well as the hitch and I suggest the Wiring Harness from Curt, # C89KR.
