Looking for Small Diameter Skid Wheels for Rear of Aluminum Trailer

Question:

Good afternoon. I was wondering what caster wheel setup I should use for the rear of my aluminum trailer to keep the rear from bottoming out? I know you should not mount steel to aluminum. I would also need the smallest one possible as my trailer already sits pretty low. Thanks

What you're looking for are referred to as skid wheels, which are used on the rear of a trailer to prevent the back of the trailer from bottoming out. The smallest diameter skid wheels we offer have a 3 inch diameter, part # UF48-979017 which mounts to 2-1/2 inch square tubing or # UF48-979018 for 3 inch square tubing.

As far as isolating the aluminum frame members from the steel housing and mounting hardware, we don't sell anything specifically designed for that task for this product, but I've seen folks use cut up pieces of bicycle innertube to prevent the steel and aluminum from coming directly into contact.

When backing your trailer, I'd recommend doing so with the greatest of care. Aluminum is much softer than steel, so the chances of bending the frame member that the skids are bolted to will be pretty good if you're not careful.

I've linked to product description videos for both kits.
