I bought two of these from a different electrical supply company not knowing etrailer offered them and they worked well but when one of them failed I took a shot and looked on etrailer and they had them and at a much more reasonable price for the EXACT same light

by:

I have four of these running off one switched circuit. Many hours on them and
no failures. Will buy again.

See what our Experts say about this Custer Emergency Vehicle Lights

  • Can Custer Strobe Lights STRL4A be Powered By Running Light Circuit
On the Custer 4-LED Strobe Light or Running Light # STRL4A the black wire powers the steady-on running light and if power is applied to the red wire the strobe effect is activated. The white wire is the ground. If you ran the running light circuit of your truck's bed to this light you could have them activate as a solid running light or a strobe depending on which circuit you tapped into. A signal on the red wire will override the steady-on running light signal on the black wire and...

  • How Do the Custer 3 Wire Strobe Lights Wire Up
On the Custer Light part # STRL4R that you referenced white is ground, black goes to a constant 12v for a steady light, red would go to constant 12 to strobe.

  • How to Wire Custer 4-LED Strobe Light or Running Light STRL4A
On the Custer 4-LED Strobe Light or Running Light # STRL4A the black wire powers the steady-on running light and if power is applied to the red wire the strobe effect is activated. The white wire is of course the ground. A signal on the red wire will override the steady-on running light signal on the black wire and cause the unit to strobe, according to my contact at Custer. I actually went to our warehouse and tested the light and it operates as stated. LEDs are always on when the black...

  • Troubleshooting 3 Wire Strobe Light Function
On the Custer 4-LED Strobe Light or Running Light - 3-Wire Pigtail - Red # STRL4R the black wire is the constant light power, the red wire is the strobe and the white wire is ground. It sounds like you either lose your ground or your constant power when your tarp is closed. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test your wire functions in the closed position. It sounds like you are losing power and you will need to test that wire every few feet to determine where the short...

  • Does the Red Custer 4-LED # STRL4R Have More Than One Strobe Pattern?
The Custer 4-LED Strobe Light or Running Light - 3-Wire Pigtail - Red # STRL4R has the ability to be used as a running light or a strobe. It does not have a controller to change strobe patterns, so the integrated strobe pattern is what you see in the video and does not change. If you want to utilize a strobe controller, you can connect it to the black wire to give you whatever pattern you desire, but the red wire has only the one strobe pattern. You can use the Custer Multi-Function...

  • Which Wire is Ground on Custer 4-LED Strobe Light STRL4R
Wire colors on lights, and on vehicles and trailers too, can vary but most often white wires are ground. This is the case for the Custer light # STRL4R that you referenced. The black wire is for running lights and the red wire is for strobe as shown in the linked video. It is easy enough to find out by testing your lights with a 12V battery. Since nothing will work without a ground you can start by presuming your white wire is ground and then connecting each of the others, red and black,...
