What Tool is Normally Used for Torqueing Down Hitch Balls

Question:

I recently had a nut loosen and off the cargo trailer I was towing. Luckily the chains and slow speed caused no issue. The ball came off the toungue. Now ,since I have a phobia about this I want to purchase an electric impact tool to make certain everything is tight. I dont know what I should look at to torque my Blue ox hitch and lug nuts etc. Any advise?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The amount of torque needed for the hitch ball you have installed on your Blue Ox weight distribution will be based on the hitch ball you have. Some require a great deal of torque like the Curt hitch balls like the # C40034 that require 450 ft lbs whereas some require less than that. We don't normally recommend impact wrenches but we do normally recommend longer torque wrenches. Since those can be expensive the best option might be to see if an auto parts store can loan you one.
