Recommended Sway Control Solution for 2016 Subaru Outback Towing 2020 Nobo 10.5 Trailer

Question:

My tow vehicle is a 2016 Subaru outback. The hitch receiver is 1-1/4". The tongue weight capacity is about 200 lbs and we're at that limit pulling a 2020 Nobo 10.5. The Nobo has a 2" ball. The dry weight of the trailer is 2000 lbs and GVWR is about 4000 lbs, but the tow limit is 2700 lbs in the Outback. I know we're really pushing the weight limit on the TV and we're planning to get a truck in the future, but until then, wonder if we can minimize the sway.

I know just what you're looking for! There is not a weight distribution system that can be used with 1-1/4" hitches, so a full system with sway control is not an available option. Instead, I recommend using the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 and Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 1-1/4" Drawbars - Class II # RP26005. This kit will help control the sway on your Nobo trailer.

If you don't have a Class II ball mount like the # C45521 for your setup already, you will need to add one to make this work. This particular ball mount works with hitch balls that have a 3/4" shank like the # A-80 (1-7/8) or # A-82 (2").
