Will Hitch Extender # HE18 Allow Camper to be Towed with Tailgate Down
Question:
I have a 20 foot Prowler. I need to extend the camper so I can pull it with my tailgate down. Is that possible?

The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-072-2, is intended for leveling a tow-bar when flat towing a vehicle behind a motor home. It cannot be used to tow a camper.
You might be able to use part # HE18, which is a hitch extender. This item adds 18 inches to the length of the receiver but also cuts in half its tongue weight capacity. You will need to make sure that the combined weight load of what you intend to place in your vehicle plus the weight of your towed camper does not exceed the reduced tongue weight capacity of your hitch. Please note you will need a second hitch pin and clip, such as part # PC3, to install this extender. I have attached a photo and video of this product.
Another option is an Extra Long Ball Mount, part # C45270. This item will not reduce your hitch tongue weight capacity like the extender. Measure from the hitch pin hole rearward to see if the additional length provided by this part gives you the required space between your vehicle and camper. If yes, then this would be a better choice.
