Options For Pulling a Boat Trailer Behind a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 with an In-Bed Truck Camper

Question:

I have a Dodge ram 3500 with a 2017 Nucamp truck camper inside. The camper weights 3100lbs. Ill need a hitch extension to connect my 20 pontoon boat that is on a double axle trailer to my truck. What hitch extension would you recommend or sway bar would you recommend?

The longest extension available that will work with the factory trailer hitch receiver on your 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 is the Trailer Hitch Extender # e48YR. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch receiver to the edge of your truck bed camper to see if this extension is long enough.

Keep in mind that a hitch extender like the # e48YR will reduce your trailer hitch receivers capacities by 50%, and has a max tongue weight rating of 350lbs and a max trailer weight rating of 3500lbs.

If the # e48YR is not long enough or your boat trailer exceeds the mentioned capacities, then there is not a way to safely tow your boat trailer with your truck while the truck bed camper is installed with your current hitch.

Another option would be to add the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver # TLD1108. This would allow you to use a TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension, which are available in a few lengths listed below.

- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1521 (21")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1524 (24")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1528 (28")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1532 (32")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1536 (36")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1542 (42")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1548 (48")
- TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension # TLE1560 (60")

Each SuperTruss has different weight capacities, so make sure you pay attention to the capacities for the length you need.
