Trailer Receiver Hitch for Flatbed Cab and Chassis Pickups

Question:

Looking at Curt 15924, do the side plates have to be installed vertically as shown, or can they safely be used horizontally to help extend the hitch rearward a little bit? I have a flatbed cab and chassis truck and the bed overhangs the end of the frame. I would like the hitch to be moved back 8-10 inches so the bed does not hang over the ball.

The side plates in the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch # C87CR have only been tested by Curt in the vertical position. With that they are not sure how the mounting brackets will hold up if mounted horizontally.

I recommend the Buyers Products Flatbed/Flatbed Dump Hitch Plate Bumper with 2" Receiver # 3371809055 for you to consider. It Is rated for 17,000lbs with a 2" receiver and is specifically designed to deal with the overhang caused by flatbeds. The hitch is designed to fit trucks with a frame width of 34" and is ready to mount on most Ford F-350, F-450 and F-550 Truck frames.
