Solution for Installing Higher Capacity Coupler on 2 inch Trailer Tongue
Question:
Hello, im trying to find a channel tongue coupler that is rated over 3500 GTW for 2inch channel. I have seen the the replacement parts for the 3500 and 5000 pound couplers are the same, the mounting holes and placement are on the same for the 2inch and 3inch channel couplers just the GTW is greater with he 3. I understand most trailers with 2inch channel is normally a 2x2 square tubing but on the chassis I have built I have used all 2x4x1/8inch steel square tubing and is the same surface area as 3x3 just a rectangle and not a square. Hope this isnt over complicated and if it is easier to call please feel free to and thanks for the help,

Your best solution will be to use a coupler designed for a 3 inch channel and then have 1/2 inch spacers attached to either side of your 2 inch channel so that a coupler like part # CT-5003-Z will fit and secure properly.
