Recommended Hitch Fit for 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Question:

Good Afternoon, I have a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid and in need of a hitch. I watched your youtube video for installation and I checked my vehicle. On the driver side I have 2 or 3 silver tubes very close to the frame. Is this going to be a problem? Thank you in advance.

I'd recommend a Curt Class III receiver for your Escape. Curt makes a great product with a durable powder coat finish. The hitch you need will depend on if your Escape is already equipped with the factory 1-1/4 inch hitch. If it is, you'll want to use # C13651. If it isn't, use # 13650. As confirmed by Curt, these hitches are compatible with the hybrid model, and the only slight issue you might run into is if your Escape is equipped with the exhaust dampener as shown in the provided photo. If if is, all you'd need to do is pry the dampener up and away so it doesn't contact the hitch. This is easily done with just a pry bar.

The Draw-Tite # 75751 you'd looked at is a fit, but Curt does a better job on the hitch finish in my opinion, so I'd personally go with the applicable Curt hitch.

I'm not sure that the silver tubes you speak of are, but Curt assures me that the hitches mentioned above are fits.

If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a wiring harness, a ball mount, a trailer ball and a pin and clip. For a wiring harness, use # 118551 or # 118251 if your Escape is equipped with the tow package. For a ball mount, use # C45010 and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball. For a pin and clip, use # PC3.
