How to Wire Brake Magnets on 8000-lbs Dexter Axle
Question:
My Dexter 8000 axles have a red wire going to the magnets. Your video talks about white wire. Is there a difference? Also every wire on my Triple axle trailer was broke were it connected to the magnets. Was there an issue with some? Thanks for your help.

I'll start this off by saying that trailer wiring does not have any standard colors; so it's possible that your trailer just has different color wiring on it. The question you're referencing refers to the different colors of the wires on the magnets and is just an easy way to determine the difference between the # BP01-265 (white wires) which fit brake assemblies 12-1/4" x 2-1/2" and 12-1/4" x 3-3/8"-which are typically found 7k or 8k axles. Conversely the # BP01-301 (yellow wires) is designed to fit on 12-1/4" x 3-3/8" and 12-1/4" x 4" brakes which are typically found on 10k or larger axles. If you're looking to replace the magnets on your brakes you would likely want to use the # BP01-265 since you've got 8000-lbs axles on your triple axle trailer.
When it comes to broken wires, I'm not familiar with any known issue on brakes not coming attached to the magnets that they have installed on them. If this is something that has worked properly before, and not a newly installed set of brake magnets, it's even more unusual for all of the magnet wires to be damaged at the same time. Brake magnets do not have dedicated power and ground wires so you just need to determine which of the wires on your brake assembly is the power wire and connect it; then you'll connect the other wire to the the ground.
