How To Power Trailer Lights From a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL-550 Without Tow Package
Question:
Hello, I purchased a 2015 GL550, for some dumb reason it did not have the factory tow with it. I purchased the factory tow hitch, and the 4/7 way wiring that goes into the vehicle. I have learned since that the factory harness and tow moduple are not in the vehicle. My question is what is available to get the trailer signals from the vehicle, that would be compatible with wireless tow modules that are available. Thanks fro the help.

In order to power the trailer lights on a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL-550 without tow package you will first need to start with a basic four way trailer wiring harness. The ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT is what I recommend since it is the only option for this vehicle that does not require splicing. However, if you are okay with splicing and looking to save some money then the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter part # C59236 will still work.
The above will then allow you to install your four to seven way adapter you got from the dealer like the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit part # ETBC7L. Once installed you can utilize a wireless brake controller which I think is what you are referring to, the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 for example.
