Are Alterations Necessary to Install Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL450
Question:
My 2014 GL 450 came with a factory installed hitch. The factory hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 600 pounds where the Curt is 900. If I remove and install this Curt hitch, are there alterations necessary to the GL450 or is it a simple remove the old and bolt on the Curt?

In order to install the Curt # C13190 some trimming will be required in addition to the bolt-on installation. A section of the heat shield will need to be trimmed that is approximately 11" x 6" and also the outboard tabs on each side of the vehicle will need to be removed.
I have attached a picture from the instructions showing what needs to be trimmed as well as the instructions themselves. It is also worth noting that this hitch will not fit models that have the Active Curve system.
