Do the Hitch Holes On a 2019 Honda Fit Need to Be Enlarged to Install a Hitch

Question:

Hi - Per advice on your website, I bought this hitch for my 2019 Honda Fit EX-L. Pep Boys said that the holes from the factory are too small and theyd have to drill the frame of the Honda to attach. They dont drill frames as a matter of policy. Are they trying to attach is correctly? Do the holes need to be enlarged? If so, is this something that most mechanics can handle? Pep Boys said the reason for the policy is because it could damage the frame. Thanks

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24920 which is a fit for your 2019 Honda Fit should not require you to drill or enlarge any holes in the frame per the owner's manual. I looked over the reviews for this hitch and there was one instance of a customer who had to shave the spacer block to fit it through the holes but nothing to the vehicle itself was altered. That said, it is not completely out of the ordinary to have to slightly enlarge a hole in the frame so this may need to be done but this would also not have any affect on its structural integrity.

I recommend you take the trailer hitch elsewhere for installation. I can't imagine many shops would turn you down as it is only rated as taking around 20-30 minutes start to finish.
