What is the safe distance between a tire and the floor of the trailer.

Expert Reply:

The rule of thumb when building a trailer is that you should allow 1.5 inches deflection at rated capacity of the spring for approximate full load dimension ( the spring can flatten out as much as 1-1/2 inches ). Then add 3 inches above tires beyond that point for maximum clearance.
