Does 2018 Toyota RAV4 Have Tongue Weight Capacity For Dirt Bike Carrier

Question:

Trying to figure out tongue weight. I have a 2018 Rav 4 its seems the towing varys for this model as low as 1,500 to 3,500 lbs, my concern is if hauling a dirt bike carrier with a class 3 hitch, 2 inch receiver, the hitch can handle the weight of 230 lbs but can my Rav? its all tongue weight. I realize they usually have a 10 percent rule. any thoughts? is tongue weight capped ?

I took a look at the online copy of the owner's manual for a 2018 Toyota RAV4 and it did not list a maximum tongue weight capacity. The tongue weight is meant to be around 10 percent to 15 percent when towing a trailer, like you said, but our only source for capacities is the owner's manual, and this one does not specify a hard limit.

Realistically, you should probably be fine using a 2 inch hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13149 - a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and 525 lb tongue weight capacity - along with a dirt bike carrier such as the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier for 2" Hitches # UF48-979033 or etrailer Motorcycle Carrier for 2" hitches # e98873 to transport a 230 lb dirt bike.

I have added links to video reviews of these dirt bike carriers as well as a link to an install of the Curt hitch on an '18 RAV4 for you to check out.

I am trying to haul across country a honda rebel 300 motorcycle using a carrier with a 2018 rav4 xle. Is that possible and what type of hitch do I need? And rack do you recommend?

Based on my research it looks like the Honda Rebel 300 weighs about 360 pounds. This likely surpasses the tongue weight limit on your RAV4 (which looks to top out at 350 pounds, only if you have the tow package and AWD). I think the safest route would be to pull the motorcycle on a small trailer.
