Comparing the Curt Hitch C13416 and EcoHitch Hitch 306-X7396 for a 2019 Toyota RAV4

Question:

Hello, I saw many replies that you recommend the Curt bolt-on hitch for the 2019 Rav4 hybrid. I was wondering if you could explain the benefits / differences of the Curt vs the EcoHitch Hidden hitch? I am getting a 2019 Rav4 Hybrid and intend to use the hitch for bike rack / cargo carrier / extremely light towing i.e. row boat Thanks

The main difference between the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13416 and the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # EH97FR is that the EcoHitch has a completely hidden cross tube whereas the Curt cross tube will be visible from the rear of vehicle which you can see in the attached photo.

The other difference between the EcoHitch option and the Curt option is that the EcoHitch has a 5,000 lb towing capacity whereas the Curt only has a 4,000 lb towing capacity but you will still be limited by your RAV4 if it is lower than these figures.

It seems like you also lose some of the vehicle's original ground clearance (I think it's 8.1 inches) if you use the Curt? Is that correct? Looks like it hangs lower than the exhaust in the pictures whereas the Eco Hitch is tucked up higher (but requires a small cutout on the bumper).

You're exactly right. The Curt option would hang lower than the EcoHitch and thus cut into the vehicle's ground clearance just a bit. Another nice benefit of the hidden design on the EcoHitch # 306-X7396.

@ChrisR Ecohitch 2" says it requires "Fascia trimming required". I've seen posts indicating that you could avoid cutting but the receiver would just push up the bottom of the bumper cover a little. Can you confirm this please? It's a lease and I don't want to give them an excuse to rack up damages;-) Will go with Curt 2" if that's the better option. Only using it for cargo tray and bike rack, no towing. Also do you have the "stealth" version with the removable receiver?
