While I have a much easier trailer wiring solution than the # 40455 that you referenced for your 2006 Mazda Tribute there is a good chance you'd have to have a relay installed behind the dash board of your vehicle to have the circuits active for this kit to work. Since most of our customers have come back and stated that finding the relay was a headache the much better option is to go with a harness that installs by plugging inline with the taillight circuits of the vehicle.
For that I recommend the Tekonsha kit part # 118426 which is a custom fit and has our most reliable converter box. The install requires a bit more wiring than the Hopkins kit but there's no guesswork and no headache of trying to track down the correct relay and also where it installs. We've heard that several Ford dealers have a hard time finding the relay location.

That is a good recommendation. However, I did purchase the plug and tow and the relay. I made an investment so I need to work with what I have because I do not have the cash.
