The best trailer hitch for your 2018 Ford Escape is the etrailer.com Class III part # E98866. This is because it features a sleek hidden crosstube design where only the 2 inch receiver is visible behind the vehicle (see attached image). Its unique matte black finish also provides a rugged look so even the small portion of the hitch that is visible still looks great.
The Class III hitch will use existing holes in the Escape for a no-drill installation and provide you with a 2 inch receiver and a 3,500 pound towing capacity. I have attached an installation video on the 2017 Ford Escape that you can use for reference. The process will be pretty much identical for your 2018 model.
If you are looking to do some towing I recommend the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness # C56320. This custom harness will install by simply plugging into factory ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights and then running the hot lead up to the battery. This will give you a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights. This particular harness features the highest amp capacity and easiest installation for your vehicle.
I have again attached an installation video that you can check out.
To tow a trailer you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. An adjustable ball mount like the Curt # D900 is a really great option that will ensure the trailer is level when hooked up to your Escape. It has a maximum rise of 4 inches, a maximum drop of 6 inches, and it includes a 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch, and 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.
