Routing a Trailer Wiring 4-Way through the Cargo Area of a Hyundai Santa Fe and Outside the Vehicle
Question:
2012 Sante Fe Hyundai. I connected the electrical to the taillight connecters. However, in checking the grommets in the trunk area, they are not big enough to run the 4-Flat wire thru. Really did not want to splice the wires. I sent the question of doing this previously and was sent a video showing this on another vehicle. Am I missing something?

If you are unable to find a hole or grommet large enough for the 4-Way flat to fit through, you are left with 3 options. First, you can just leave the harness inside the vehicle and pull it out through the rear hatch as described in the instructions.
Or, you could also drill out a hole using a 2 inch hole saw. You will need to provide your own grommet or otherwise seal up the hole after you route the trailer wiring through.
The third option is to use an extension like # HM47115. You can cut and splice it instead of the converter wiring harness. Connect the trailer end to the converter 4-Way and then clip off the other end of the extension. Route the wires through a grommet or smaller drilled hole, then re-attach the connector, color for color, using the butt connectors like # 05731-5 and then wrapping them up in electrical tape. This should work quite well.
