Why Would 2016 Kia Sorento Have Higher Towing Capacity than 2015

why does the 2016 sorento have a 500 lb. tongue weight rating and the 2015 sorento have a 350 lb. tongue rating ??

For 2016 it does look like Kia uprated the towing capacity of the Sorento. It's not uncommon for vehicle manufacturers to come up with weighs to increase the towing capacity of a vehicle from year to year. Most common way is by offering more powerful engines which allow for heavier trailers to be towed. Kia won't say exactly what changed but that you have to stick by the capacities for the vehicle. There was a generation change between the 2015 and 2016 models of the Sorento so I am sure with newer engine and transmission technology they were able to come up with a higher towing capacity.
A 2016 model would require the Draw Tite hitch part # 75908 and a 2015 would require # 75772.
