All Parts Needed to Tow With a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

You have an answer to a towing package for a 2005 Grand Caravan. I have a 2007 Grand Caravan with stow and go seats. I am sure that the general discussion of what is needed is the same but are the parts the same?

I can give you all the parts needed, including the wiring, transmission cooler and suspension enhancement so you can safely tow with your 2007 Grand Caravan with Stow-N-Go seats.

For a trailer hitch you can use the Class III Draw-Tite # 75305 which is a bolt-on installation and has a 2" hitch; I've added a photo showing you how the hitch looks when installed on an '07 Grand Caravan. Since you need a ball mount I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which is for 2” hitches and may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.

You can use the link to the help article on ball mounts I've added to determine if this kit will give you the correct amount of drop or rise. I've also attached a link to our pages with each of our ball mounts and hitch balls for you to check out.

To add a brake controller you will need 4-way # 118300 and Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you a 7- and 4-way trailer connector, circuit breakers and the rest of the hardware needed to install a brake controller.

As for the brake controller itself, I strongly recommend the Prodigy P2 # 90885; it is the most popular model we carry due to its effectiveness and ease of use. It will activate your trailer's brakes immediately in proportion to your Grand Caravan's brakes and offers three different boost levels so you can adjust your braking power.

For a transmission cooler you can use the Derale # D13503 to keep your transmission in the best possible shape for when you are towing.

In regards to weight distribution you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Grand Caravan. The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW.

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0600 has a total tongue weight capacity of between 250 lbs and 600 lbs and should make for a great option for your Grand Caravan. Also note this weight distribution system will require a hitch ball, either # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball.
