Boat Trailer Winch to Replace Old Unknown Shelby Winch

Question:

I have a Hoosier center lift trailer for my 22foot pontoon boat that has a Shelby winch. I do not know the model number of the winch as the plate is missing, I got the trailer used from the marina I purchased the boat from. The trailer model number is TA725N manufactured 2/01. I called the manufacturer and they told me the winch was the shelby and they couldnt get any parts. The crank handle hole has rounded and slips on the shaft when we try to use it. That being said do you recommend a replacement winch that I can mount on my trailer? The trailer is large enough to hold a 24foot - 26foot boat, mine is only 22. The boat is a Sweetwater with a 60hp mercury outboard. I dont have the weight of the boat as it is at my lake house. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

This is actually a good opportunity to get a winch that will be better for a marine environment than typical hand winches. The Fulton XLT winch # F142425 is the most popular option in the boat winch category. It is enclosed to protect the meat and potatoes on the winch inside. It features an adjustable handle and a strap rather than a cable. Straps are not susceptible to corrosion unlike cable. I have linked a video review of this winch for you.

I have also linked our various boat winch offerings for you. I recommend going with a 1 to 1 ratio. So for example if the boat weighs 1,500 pounds then a 1,500 winch will be a good option. The higher the capacity of the winch the easier it will be to crank the winch and the longer the winch will last.
