Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a 2009 Jeep Liberty and 2,100 Pound Trailer
Question:
We have a 2009 Jeep Liberty5,000 towing capacity. We just purchased a single axel recreational vehicle approx 2100 lbs. When towing the trailer we felt swaying from camper due to winds. We were wondering if a weight distribution with sway bar would assist in minimizing this movement? We are not familiar with these type of set ups Additionally, if the answer is yes. Could you please recommend what set up would be the easiest for us. We also would like the weight distribution set up to be transferable. Thank you for your time.

Weight distribution with sway control will absolutely help with the sway issue that you are having. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
A trailer that weighs 2,100 pounds would, by itself, have a tongue weight of around 210 to 315 pounds. You can know for sure what your total tongue weight is by following a method in the help article I have linked for you. Or you could use a tongue weight scale such as the etrailer # e99044.
For a system that covers up to 400 pounds tongue weight and that comes with weight distribution I recommend Equal-I-zer system # EQ37041ET. This system has sway control at both ends of the spring bars for maximum protection against sway. Everything is included but we do recommend adding thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 to make it easier to install the ball in the head.
For something a little more economical I recommend Fastway system # FA92-00-0450. This system has sway controller just at the ends of the bars and does not come with a ball. For a compatible 2 inch ball use # 40038.
I have included a link on weight distribution and sway control for you as well.
