How to Prepare a 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver for Winter Weather

Question:

During the winter, I don’t need to tow. As a result, I remove my receiver until the snow goes away. In my area, the state salts the roads heavily. If I want to keep the receiver rust free, should I plug the hitch pin holes? If so, do you sell plugs?

Expert Reply:

In order to prevent rust from accumulating inside the trailer hitch receiver while not in use I recommend using a hitch cover likespart # C22272 to cover the receiver tube opening and a standard hitch pin like the Curt Pin and Clip part # C21510 to cover the hitch pin hole.
