Why Does Curt Trailer Hitch for 2017 Toyota Camry Require Stabilizing Strap
Question:
Since the Curt hitch requires a support strap for bike racks and the draw-tite hitch does not.. Is the curt hitch less rugged?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Both the Draw-Tite Class II # 36540 and Curt Class II # C12107 Trailer Hitches confirmed to fit your 2017 Toyota Camry are extremely well-built units. Curt requires that a stabilization strap like # 18050 be used with non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers) with their lower Class hitches simply as an added safety measure. This is not an indication of its strength or durability.
When there is an option, I do usually recommend the Draw-Tite alternative because they do not have this same requirement. I recommend this more because using the stabilizing strap can be a hassle, not because the Curt is lacking in strength.
The Draw-Tite Class II # 36540 is a great option for your Toyota Camry and will provide a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening, along with a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds. I have included the written installation instructions and an installation video on the 2016 Camry that you can use for reference. All the necessary hardware is included with the hitch.
