Trailer Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack for a 2010 Chrysler Sebring Convertible

Question:

Hello I have a 2010 Chrysler Sebring hard top convertible and looking at finding the relevant hitch/ tow ball etc for this vehicle. I may be towing a trailer at times but mainly to hook up a bike rack. Could you please advise the parts I need and corresponding numbers # . Kind regards

You'll need a couple things to tow, the first of which is a hitch. For the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame, part # 24871 is a confirmed fit. It has a no-drill installation process, so it should be easy for you to install. I've included a video of it being installed on a 2008 Chrysler Sebring soft top convertible, so you can get an idea of the installation process.

If you're going to be towing a trailer with the Sebring then you'll need trailer wiring as well. Use # 118444 which plugs in behind both tail lights. Also the recommended ball mount is the Draw-Tite # 3594. It gives you 4 inches of rise. The compatible hitch ball is # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball and # 19258 for a 2 inch ball.

For a bike rack, you'll want to be aware that Class I hitches are only rated to carry two bikes because of the weight distribution's interaction with the hitch. The natural jostling that occurs when using a rack can cause damage to the hitch or vehicle if a third bike is added to the hitch. Additionally, many Class I hitches have a stopper that will prevent incompatible hitches from being installed, so be aware to look for Class I rated, 1-1/4 inch compatible bike racks. I've included a link below that takes you to our selection of hitch mounted bike racks already filtered to these specifications.

Because you're driving a convertible, I do recommend a lower set platform rack to avoid damage to the vehicle and to keep the streamlined look of the convertible. An extremely popular rack is the Curt # C89JR. This is a wheel-mounted rack that is appropriate for a wide range of styles and wheel bases. It also has a unique, V-shaped style making it stand out as a style choice. Additionally, its compatible with up to Class III hitches and 2-inch receivers, giving you flexibility to mount it to another vehicle if the need arises.

For this rack, I also recommend picking up an anti-rattle hitch lock, part # 63232 to and 10-foot Cable Lock, part # e98891. These together will work to improve the security of the rack and bikes, letting you worry less about the bikes if you take a break on the drive home.

I've included videos of all of these parts in action so you can get an idea of how they work, as well as a link to help articles on installing, how to set up a towing system and how to set up and troubleshoot wiring on a vehicle equipped to tow.
