Instructions for a Reese Friction Anti Sway Bar # RP26660

Question:

I had my Reese Friction Anti Sway Bar installed 14 years ago and havent had to use it again since until now. Somewhere I lost the instruction sheet and the sticker on the side is unreadable. What do I need to know? I had an RV trailer mechanic install the equalizer hitch and sway bar and all is working ok, but how do I set the friction with the handle? Should it always be tight or should I back off to where the handle is parallel to the sway bar? It seems a bit loose when horizontal and parallel to the sway bar. Thanks in advance

I spoke to my contact at Reese and he informed me that most likely you have a Reese Friction Sway Control, part # 83660, because this product has not changed at all. I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out.

The handle is actually the on/off switch for the unit. To set the level of friction you will actually use the bolt that is below the on/off handle as it is the gain level. To get maximum benefits from the sway control assembly, a series of road tests should be taken with the loaded trailer. On subsequent trips increase or decrease tension by turning the adjusting bolt in 1/4 turn increments in the direction shown on the label until the desired control is achieved.
