Can an Adapter be Used to Carry a Tailgator Grill with a 2" Shank with a 2014-2016 Nissan Versa Note

Question:

Im shopping for a 2014-2016 Nissan Versa Note SL and I need a receiver hitch. Im wanting to attach my Tailgater Grill, but it has a 2inch connector. Is there a 1 1/4inch to 2inch adapter and if so would that be safe?

Since the you will be installing a Class I, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver on your 2014-2016 Nissan Versa Note, you are correct that you will need an adapter. You can safely use an adapter, but you will need to know that there will be some extra play in the hitch receiver and your Tongue Weight (TW) capacity will be reduced by 50%.

I recommend installing the Curt # C11378 which is a fit for all 3 year models of the Versa Note and has a TW capacity of 200 lbs. If you were to use the Brophy Adapter # HTAD to carry your grill then your TW would be reduced to 100 lbs. Keep in mind that your max weight capacity will be limited by your lowest rated component. If your Versa Note has a lower TW rating than 200 lbs then that lower capacity will be cut in half and is the weight capacity that you will need to go with.

Another thing to note is that in order to stay within the limits of the Curt warranty, this hitch receiver will need to be accompanied by a Support Strap # 18050 with all non-trailer loads such as your grill. As long as you use the strap and your grill doesn't exceed your weight capacity then i don't see a reason why it would be a problem.
