Recommended Weight Distribution System For 2004 Fleetwood Pioneer Travel Trailer

Question:

Hello, I have a 2013 F150 and a 2004 Fleetwood Pioneer 18t6 travel trailer. I am looking into a weight distribution hitch but Im not sure which one to get specifically with the tongue height I have. My hitch receiver sits about 18.5inch to the top above the ground. When I used a standard 2inch / 3/4inch rise ball mount, the trailer tongue points down low quite a bit mostly because the ball is too low. I saw the Reese 49902 and it has a 5.5inch rise which might be ok but if it isnt enough, I think I would have to buy another shank which is very expensive.

For the limited clearance you described, I don't recommend the Pro Series Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW # PS49582.

For your system, you need to take the total tongue weight which includes the loaded trailer tongue weight and any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. This combined number is the total tongue weight and you want that to fall near the center of the tongue weight rating of your weight distribution system.

For your system I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion # FA92-00-0800. This system is rated for 0 to 800 lbs tongue weight and will give you better ground clearance as well as sway control that is far superior to the friction bar. This system utilizes metal on metal friction on both sides to consistently control sway. You will need a hitch ball and I recommend the 2 inch diameter # A-90 or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch option.

I've attached an article to help you determine the rise you need. This is very similar to finding the correct ball mount.
