Recommended Weight Distribution System and Shank with About 8 Inches of Drop

Question:

Hello, I need a weight distribution / sway system for my 7600 GVW camp trailer, and believe your item # RP66074 is a good candidate. Please help me a shank. The top of my pickups hitch receiver is 23inch from the ground, and the top of my camp trailers coupler is 18inch from the ground. Thanks for any help you can offer.

The Reese Strait-Line # RP66074 is likely a good choice for your trailer but you need to find out its loaded tongue weight to be sure. You want the system you choose to be rated for the trailer's loaded tongue weight added to the amount of weight stored behind your tow vehicle's rear axle. The Strait-Line is rated from 600 to 1,200 pounds so it's likely to be in the middle or towards the higher end of that range.

A 2-5/16 inch hitch ball to use with the Stait-Line is # 19286. Or use # A-90 for a 2 inch ball depending on your trailer's coupler.

To determine how much drop you need you'll want to measure from the ground to the bottom of the trailer's coupler. I'm guessing this will be about 2 to 3 inches less than the 18 inch measurement to the top of the coupler that you already took but you'll want to measure it to be sure.

If this is the case and you need a shank that has about 8 inches of drop you'll need # RP3344. It's only 7-5/8 inches of drop when used with a trunnion bar system like the Strait-Line but it's the largest drop we have. And it's going to be very close to what you need.
