Trailer Wiring Harness for 2012 Nissan Frontier Without Trailer Hitch

Question:

Bought the truck used and had no hitch. Called Nissan Dealer and asked if the SV was wired for towing and he told me yes so I ordered the hitch and harness 118263 from you and installed them this morning. No tail lights on the trailer and only power to left brake and left signal light. All others no lights. Did I make a mistake by not ordering the C56225 kit or the 57000 kit? I am totally confused! I have an RV and cant even tow it!! If I order the C56225 I will have two 118263 harnesses of which I dont need. Help!

If your truck did not come with a trailer hitch or wiring harness from the factory and you only need a 4-way flat trailer connector, then you would need the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness, # C56225, as you pointed out. The additional relay harness is required to supply power for the tail lights. The relay for the right turn signal and brake light is located under the hood on the passenger side in a relay box.

It is possible that Nissan did not include the relay since the truck did not come with a factory tow package. You should see a single blue relay like the one in our Curt Relay Kit # C57000. The relay for the right turn signal and brake light is in the far-right slot closest to the windshield. If that is empty, then you will need a relay. If it is there, then you can test it by replacing it with the relay for the left-hand turn signal and brake in the far-left slot closest to the passenger side headlight. Your left turn signal will no longer work, but if the right turn signal starts to work, then we know it is a bad relay.

If you purchase part # C56225, then you will have two 4-way connector harnesses. Unfortunately, the relay harness is not available separately from either of the manufacturers. You could certainly return part # 118263 and purchase # C56225 so you do not end up with a harness that you can't use.

We also offer a 7-way trailer connector wiring harness for your Frontier as part # 118266. I have attached installation videos of both wiring harness for you to check out.
