The B&W Patriot 5th wheel hitch and installation kit you referenced, parts # BWRVK3270 and # BWRVK2506, is a confirmed fit for your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with 6-1/2-foot bed. This system uses industry-standard rails (ISRs) for mounting in your truck and these remain in place when the hitch is removed.

The hitch head unit alone weighs approximately 50-lbs; the remainder of the slider/base weighs about 165-lbs, a bit much for one person.

If you want to have the bed totally clear (no base rails on the bed) when you're not 5-ing, then you might prefer B&W's Companion slider and under-bed installation kit. This system consists of parts # BWRVK3400-5W and # BWGNRK1012-5W. With this system you can remove the hitch and have a totally clear bed for cargo with no base rails in your way. This is also rated for 20K. The hitch weight is approximately 270-lbs, again a 2-person job.

If you need a 5th wheel wiring harness you can use # C56000.

You will have to go with a sliding hitch to allow the trailer to make tight turns. For a trailer 8 feet wide the only bed length that's going to allow 90 degree turns without a slider is a stationary hitch. That being said you have two options.…
